About Us

A Free Public Service
Serving the solar and wind energy communities since 2000

This is a free public service providing a convenient, trusted means for estimating solar, wind and renewable energy system costs, running payback and financial analysis, and accessing contractor, installer and other professional services in the renewable energy and energy efficiency fields. We also provide a directory of solar and wind original equipment manufacturers (OEM's) and distributors.

An Original in the Solar & Wind Energy Industry: Established in 2000 as "Calenergy.org" to help foster the solar and wind markets in California. Our estimating software tools and "Find-A-Pro" services are an original solar and wind energy industry leader. We have always been, and remain, a free public service.

Some Achievements: Over the years we helped coin the term "Solar Pro", helped millions of people learn about solar, wind and renewable energy, and profiled 3,700 solar, wind and renewable energy pros including 6,782 customer ratings & reviews. To date, more than 54,502 people have directly connected with professionals, through our site, to get solar, wind and other renewable energy systems installed. Many others have used our service to contact professionals via phone or in person - all across the USA, Puerto Rico and Canada.

This service is a not-for-profit project of Energy Matters who relies primarily upon revenues from its other activities, and site supporters, to maintain this as a free public service. Our original partner and funder is the California Energy Commission. Over the years, additional support has been provided by several nonprofits and government agencies including: Renewable Energy Long Island, the US Department of Energy, the Canadian Wind Energy Association, Global Possibilities, the Solar Electric Power Association (SEPA) and the American Solar Energy Society (ASES) *. Additional support has been provided by individuals or companies that made contributions in support of our work. We thank these entities for their support.

Energy Matters has developed several other successful and proprietary software tools, including EnergyPeriscope.com, to facilitate the adoption and growth of solar and renewable energy in the United States and Canada. Energy Matters produced the television programs "This Renewable House", "Sunny & Friends", and a series of renewable energy public service announcements featuring Lee Iacocca. The company is also an authorized IRS e-file tax return partner (See: Taxhead.com).
